Portugal uses the Euro (€), and ATMs are readily available. When withdrawing cash, we recommend looking for an ATM marked “MB” (Multibanco). Multibanco is Portugal's national ATM network and is generally the best option for accessing cash while traveling. As always, check with your bank before traveling to understand any foreign transaction or ATM fees.

Most U.S. cell phones will work in Portugal, but international coverage and costs vary by carrier and plan. We recommend checking with your cell phone provider before traveling to see what international options are available to you. There are also Apps where you can download an ESIM, I’ve personally used Nomad and it worked great while being very cost efficient! You can find it in your app store & follow the directions to download the ESIM to your phone :)
A quick tip: Download WhatsApp!
WhatsApp is very popular in Portugal and throughout Europe and is a great way to stay connected while traveling. We may also use WhatsApp to share wedding-weekend updates and important information as we get closer to the celebration. It works over Wi-Fi or mobile data, so be sure to download the app before you leave home. -

Other than your wedding attire — which will be outlined on the official invitation, our #1 packing recommendation is a really good pair of walking shoes! If you're planning to explore Lisbon or Porto, comfortable sneakers or walking shoes with good support and plenty of tread are a must. Both cities are incredibly walkable, but you'll encounter plenty of cobblestone and stone-paved streets, uneven sidewalks and hills, sometimes with a surprisingly steep climb. We learned this firsthand — looking cute is great, but your feet will thank you for choosing comfort!
We also recommend packing:
Lightweight, comfortable clothing for warm days
A light wrap for cooler evenings
Sunglasses and sunscreen
A hat for sunny days
Comfortable shoes for exploring
A swimsuit if you're planning to enjoy the pool or beach
A small crossbody or secure bag for sightseeing
Water bottle!
And one more tip: Leave a little room in your suitcase. Between the ceramics, cork, food, wine and other Portuguese treasures, you may find a few things you want to bring home!
